About Mama B McCarter

In the Canine World, I'm known as Mama B, a dog whisperer. I'm an avid dog lover & a self-proclaimed “Abled Disabled” person. Having a super positive attitude while actively balancing my private life are attributes I'm most proud of attaining. I believe that anyone with a brain can reinvent better outcomes in adverse circumstances. Here's my philosophy: use what you have at hand, develop a flexible strategy, solicit help without expectation, & believe the new seeds you've sown will grow into their assignment.

As a sickly, depressed little girl, I have vivid memories of being cared for attentively by the various family dogs at different times of their existence and a cat named Pebbles. She once put the hind end of a mouse on my pillow and watched me (pretend to) eat it. She also constantly licked my hot, fever-ridden nose & forehead with her rough bumpy tongue while my dog lay in my arms as I hallucinated. With animals on my care team, I learned what love was & felt safe. Despite having a weak musculature with excruciating joint pain, by age 12, I invented a dog walking business.  I earned a dollar a day, starting with a red canine named Lucky. The sporadic times I did receive medical attention, I appreciated how kind the staff in white coats were, and I became a nurse at the young age of 16.

Although tenacious & committed to my 1st career, my body was not. With a frail, struggling body, I was prescribed an abundance of medications without proper monitoring. Far too many incidences of serial hospitalizations & calling out sick led me to become legally disabled while my children were still young. I always bathed & trained other people's dogs for my comfort and supplemental income. I had no idea that my severe decline in health would lead me to a crucial place in my life where I would need to train my own Service Dog to assist me with ADL’S (activities of everyday living), especially while wheelchair bound.

To date, I am considered a miracle by my doctors, human clients, & strangers alike. I have defied various prognoses, 2 cancers, and now appear decades younger than my chronological age. I have reinvented myself yet again, attributing most of the defying of gravity to rescued underdogs that were sent to me. Despite life's curveballs, I am proud to have been enabled by dog or "Dog-Abled". Writing books is my love language to educate the world.

I love dogs! Communicating with them seemingly telepathically may be my greatest superpower. This often happens with other animal species, too, like horses. My most recent animal certifications include completing a Veterinary Telehealth Tech from my studies at Penn Foster Online School. I'm excited to begin basic Equestrian studies soon. I MIGHT BE THE MOST GRATEFUL PERSON IN THE WORLD right now because, by dog, (and a few wonderful humans), I AM THE HEALTHIEST THAN I'VE EVER BEEN. I enjoy traveling for work & play with the rough times behind me. Life is short so I'm enjoying what I couldn't before the existence of my 12 Paws crew. Yes I Can!

I've recently earned Vet Tech Telehealth Certificationand look forward to walking the stage for my diploma. My certification conquest goals include Animal Reiki, Advanced- Pro Dog Training, & Equestrian studies.

Unfortunately, canines do not live nearly as long as human beings. So, with lifetime disabilities, I have outlived so many wonderful assistance dogs. Although it's quite painful, memories of each one fuel my original mission. Serving the Shelter Dog community excites me because my confidence in "Under Dogs" stems from a proven track record.
