Oreo DoubleStuff The Baller"

Oreo Doublestuff
“The Baller”
If I had a ball, my handsome Oreo would perform any task just to play fetch, his ultimate reward! I entered the Mansell Road Humane Society in Atlanta, Georgia, with the sole purpose of rescuing a 7-week old female puppy from a fresh litter of adoptables to train & replace the elderly Panther. Choosing the best canine fit for a Service Dog assignment always excited me. But don't get me wrong, I was carrying a sad heart simultaneously because the death of Panther was imminent.
"Get a young puppy...get a young puppy, I thought.
As I headed straight back to the new puppy room, my stride was suddenly summoned by the loud, relentless barking of a skinny wide- eyed Dalmation/Pitbull Mix. At that time, I would not have chosen either breed on my own. But Oreo insisted on refuting all of "the negatives" of the times such as Pitbulls cannot be Service Dogs, Dalmations are deaf, females are the best dogs, & it's best to choose the youngest puppy to adopt.

(By the way, according to Service Dog Law in the United States, ANY BREED OF CANINE CAN BECOME A SERVICE DOG IF IT IS SPECIFICALLY TRAINED TO ASSIST WITH A DISABILITY OF A HANDLER)

Out of sheer love, Panther continued to help Barb around the house. Realizing that it was dire to train another pup, The loud puppy was fixated on me. He yelped louder when I touched another dog and quietly smiled when I stopped to meet his gaze. The info card of the white polka dotted abused pup was named Cauliflower Shane by the shelter staff. I shuddered at that with a giggle. Falling in love & adopting Oreo Doublestuff became personal very fast. He had double the love, playfulness, licks, ball playing, and snuggling she had ever seen! Panther befriended the baby pup and looked after him as if she knew he would replace her. Oreo became an excellent Service Dog especially indoors. He became the best of all the dogs in opening & closing the fridge, cabinets, picking up dropped items, and more!
He refuted every stereotype thrown at him from the animal shelter, the world, & also by me. I later dubbed Oreo, "The Bestest Boy" of all the dogs I ever had. He served me I am very grateful. Eventually, one of Oreo's thing to do was visit elderly & handicapped clients who also enjoyed playing fetch. GOT BALL/ GOT JOY!
To honor Oreo Doublestuff's life of continuing Panther's Service Dog Legacy, I wrote a hybrid book sequel entitled, Oreo For President: An American Tail by Mama b McCarter.
Just weeks after the unboxing of this fundraiser book,, my Oreo Doublestuff was unexpectantly diagnosed with advanced Cancer of the blood vessels & internal organs. Fortunately, he lived in semi-retirement for 4+ more wonderful years.
